Wine Tasting

Wine tasting is not just for wine expert. Anyone who can taste food can taste wine too. Just like tasting food, wine tasting require our sense of smell and taste. "What smell and taste bad certainly cannot be considered good right."... ... Nevertheless, there is still a difference between wine consumers and experts. The former seek for something in the wine to praise and agreeable while the latter seek fault or something to criticize.

Well, not exactly true... ... being able to tell what is good and being able to describe how one wine is better than the other are simply two different matter.

  • Don't smoke before or during wine tasting
  • Make notes during tasting

  • Appropriate order of wine tasting
  • Serving temperature and presentation of wine
  • Blind tasting the wine to avoid biased judgment or prejudice.

Wine for Tasting

Wine tasting and appreciation are not necessary for every wine. Not all wine are for tasting and discussed about but rather for consumption just like any other beverages. Especially the millions of gallons of ordinary wine made to be marketed like any other mass produce from the factory are serious not the candidate for wine tasting session... like the French made vin de table.

Wine tasting principles

Wine tasting is really very subjective. But generally, something being accepted universally is that tasting of wine is very much like music appreciation. Both can be appreciated and greatly love by people who doesn't necessary have any knowledge or interest about it. They just appealed to anyone sensory manner. But well like like music, wine require more knowledge and practice to bring the appreciate to a higher level of understanding and enjoyment.
